Communication and Participation

The cross-cutting topic communication/participation is supervised by Dr. Mario Sommerhäuser, Lippeverband (WaX project KliMaWerk). In the cross-cutting topic, the challenges faced by the associations in the area of communication and participation are discussed and what best-practice examples exist. It is primarily an exchange of experience from which the employees of the associations can take away useful insights for their own work and learn from each other.

In a first workshop in March 2023, the needs and planned activities of the projects in the area of communication and participation were collected. The topics and contents that are within the focus of the projects and the goals that are pursued with communication and participation were discussed. Almost all consortia pursue the goal to increase awareness of water extremes, such as heavy rain, drought or low water, as well as knowledge about and acceptance of available management options. Different communicative and participative components, such as interviews, workshops, surveys, stakeholder and network analyses, are used. The target group covers users of the products, the public, the administration and/or the water management, which should be informed and partly integrated into the working processes. This shall serve on one hand to record requirements and reservations and to identify potential conflicts, and on the other hand, it should lead to a greater awareness of the respective topics and to better acceptance.
