New Drought Map by the Integrated Drought Management Programme

Tracking drought severity, extent, and impacts over time is a vital contribution to effective preparedness, planning, and mitigation. Being aware of the current and future drought conditions is essential for decision-making in agriculture, water management, and disaster risk reduction measures.

The new tracking map by the Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) takes into account national drought monitors across countries and territories worldwide. Such monitors assess the extent and severity of drought conditions in a specific region or country by using indicators such as precipitation, soil moisture, and temperature.

If you know of a national drought monitor not yet on the map, please contact droughtmanagement@wmo.int.
